Architect Transforms Compact 200-Year-Old Paris Apartment, 45sqm/484sqft

Set within a 200-year-old building on one of Paris’s oldest streets, architect Pierre Savajol of PS Studio reworked this once cramped and poorly proportioned apartment using a clever loop plan, overlapping spaces and discreet built-in furniture. A compact technical core at the centre of the layout containing the kitchen, bathroom and storage creates a continuous loop around it, improving flow and connecting the surrounding living spaces. Other highlights include a bathroom that expands into the corridor when in use and a walk-in wardrobe accessed from both the bedroom and corridor. Inspired by the raw simplicity of art galleries and the history of the building itself, PS Studio worked with the existing uneven walls and exposed timber beams, introducing a restrained palette of white, stainless steel and simple, raw materials.
